as said previously Herbalist is an Animal (mostly a rabbit) that excel in preparation of herbs
And in general Herbs is what in conventional RPGs is Magic:
a way to redressing the power imbalance between you and bigger foe.

So even if you are not planning to have a Herbalist in your team, it is highly suggest to consider the search and use of them

This rules should be reed by anyone, even if you don't plan to dabble in herb manipulation and alchemy

Herbs can be found in (almost) Every habitat, but finding specific one will require
looking in the right habitat and right places of a plant.

there are Four Kind of Herbs:
Herbs sources:
Fungal: mushrooms, buttons, caps, balls, boletes, and related decomposers (e.g., Slime, Molds)
Floral: flowering plant, including dust (pollen), petals, whole flowers, seeds, nuts, or berries
Overt: leaves, stems, sap, or bark
Covert: roots, tubers, and bulbs

This is the table that resume the Herbs location relative to their habitat
Herbal Location

You may actively Search for herbs once per hour \(\text{SML Rating + 1d6 + }\overset{\text{if you are a Hebalist}}{1}\text{ Vs DV=4}\)
On Failure or upon request of player: the research will yield a Green Herb
On Success: You find an Herb. The kind of herb is based on:

  • Herb Source: The Habitat determinate what kind of Herb you will find
  • Complexity: the higher the SML check the more powerful / complex the herb will be
  • This is summarized in this table:

Then, the GM may Announce the successful search and roll two private Roll:

First Roll: Determine if a Herb is actually Poisonweed
[1-2] The herb is Poisonweed. Otherwise is a true herb
A Poisonweed is identical to any other herb but will hurt the player who get applied by it.
You can recognize a poisonweed if you are able to clearly distinguish the properties of the collected herb (see below)
if ingested a roll for toxin resistance \(1d6+\text{ CON Rating Vs. DV=6}\)
Upon Failure The consumer incur 2HP Damage per hour until the toxin is cleared
Poisonweed may also have other unintentional effects

Second Roll: Number of Sprigs Founded, Remember that any spring more than 4 is Reported as a thousand, as animals can only count up to 4

Usually when a Herb is found the GM may tell you: "You have found a fungal herb" or "You have located a covert herb smell."

Herbs can be recognized by these properties:

  • Source: (Fungal, Floral, Overt, Covert) You will know this automatically.
  • Type: (Cap, Flower, Leaf, Fruit, Ball, Root, Bulb, Steam) This is important for the Delivery
  • Clarity: (Indistict (non-herbs), Clear, Cloudy, Murky, Dense) indicate the Complexity of the herb. This generally indicate the power of the Herb
  • Quality: (Indistict (non-herbs), Minty (MYS/SML), Musky (CON/SPD), Acrid (CHA/INT), Pungent (AGI/STR)) This is Important for the Preparation

Tip: you will notice that only:

  • Only 1 Source of herbs can be find in each habitat, (see Herbal Location)

Since the herb is not outright revealed an animal should perform some SML Checks before using it:

  • Poisonweed: The GM roll a Private SML Check (with your SML Rating) Vs. DV=4, On Success: "it smells like an herb" if it isn't Poisonweed, On Failure: "it smells like an herb" even if it is Poisonweed
  • Type: Public SML Check Vs. DV=4
  • Clarity: Public SML Check Vs. DV=6
  • Quality: Public SML Check Vs. DV=6

Thus a complete Herb inspection require 4 Successful Checks

You can investigate the same herb once per day

Herbs found naturally and most traded are unprepared and considered "Raw"

To Use a Raw Herb you must prepare it, any character can do it but Professions specialized in that will have more success
you don't need to know every properties of an herb to prepare it, but a bad preparation can lead to Ruin the herb or turn it into poisonweed

There are Eight Possible Basic Preparation available to anyone Each connected to a Trait
Once Prepared the Herb is Considered "Fresh" and will be ready to use

Announce the preparation technique. You can prepare as once as many sprigs of herbs as you can count.
then Roll an SML Skill Check, DV will be determined by the clarity.
Clear: DV=3 Cloudy: DV=4 Murky: DV=5 Dense: DV=6

Failure or use of the wrong Technique result in Ruining the entire batch of herb,
Ruined herb are useless, but you can still trade these to who doesn't know the difference.

Once Prepared you should also label the batch with the SML rating of the preparer

Trait Basic Raw Herb Preparation Technique Turn Raw into Fresh Herb Turn Raw into Poisonweed
CON Chew Medicinal Herb Defensive Herb
MYS Lick Soporific Herb Herbal Herb
INT Brush Prophylactic Herb Hypnotic Herb
SPD Claw Defensive Herb Medicinal Herb
CHA Peel Hypnotic Herb Prophylactic Herb
SML Crumble Herbal Herb Soporific Herb
STR Squeeze Injurious Herb Irritant Herb
AGI Brush Irritant Herb Injurious Herb

Pungent: Squeeze
Musky: Claw,

Any animal may carry and use herbs on itself automatically.
But only a Herbalist (🍺 or Animals with SML Level 3) may apply an herb to an opponent
And only a Herbalist may use herb during Pursuit

To use an herb, declare the intention of using one, and how you intend to deliver it.
Most herbs work Immediately once Prepared and delivered properly,
but some might require a Skill check by the user, depending on the trait associated with that herb.

Each Herb is associated with a typical method of delivery
During pursuit the only method of delivery will be by dispersion in air (Breathe)
otherwise all the other method may be used at any time

Press: Apply any Herb into a open wound directly in contact with blood
Eat: Either by eating or drinking the liquid portion of an herb. However, some herbs are toxic if eaten, but exert other effects when delivered in a different way.
Rub: Usually Herbs that provide protection from foreign agencies (pests or herbs), Rubbing employs the same actions as normal grooming behavior and requires the same amount of time as grooming.
Sprinkle: Similar to rubbing, sprinkling applies crumbs or powder from the herb over an external surface, usually a food item or another herb, but in one instance the tongue of the herb user.
Contact: This herb are so powerful that the mere contact can be used as delivery. Nettles have stinging hairs on their leaves and stems that cause pain, Berries also can be applied by smashing them against an enemy and allowing the juice of the berry to contact the skin.
Sniff: flowers or fungal balls involve self-delivery by sniffing the dust or spores. is not advised to sniff herbs that produce particles unless you are fully confident
Breathe: Hers that disperse seeds pollen. Each may have different patterns and produce the effect over a spatial area.
Fluffy seed heads disperse in a narrow cone extending from the front of the user forward for 2 meters
